FIND A HOME FOR YOUR ANIMAL
At Save-A-Life we understand that sometimes people find themselves in a situation where they can no longer keep their pet. Also, many people find stray animals that are in need of a good home. Please DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THE SHELTER. Most of the shelters in the L.A. area euthanize 9 out of 10 animals they receive. Before deciding to bring an animal to Save-A-Life, there are options for finding a new home for your pet. The following resources can help you find an adoptive family:
www.wonderpuppy.net has compiled extensive resources from ways to resolve issue that will allow you to keep your pet or to find a home for your animal companion.
- Best Friends Animal Sanctuary has created a pamphlet in Acrobat PDF format on "How to Find Homes for Homeless Pets." Please be aware of who you choose as a new family. Unfortunately there are many unscrupulous people who will adopt a pet and say they'll love it, but will instead sell the pet to a laboratory for research. This pamphlet provides information on how to screen potential candidates.
- Local rescue groups often have connections to individuals looking to adopt certain types of animals. Usually if you are willing to continue caring for your pet until they find a new home, they can help place your pet. If you cannot foster your pet, ask friends or relatives if they could assist with these. Many will if it means there's a chance your pet will find a loving home. Plan ahead so there is plenty of time to find an appropriate adoptive family.
- If you are moving and feel you have to give up your pet because of your housing choice, investigate the following sites for pet-friendly housing options:
BRINGING THE ANIMAL TO US
In the event that you cannot find a home for your animal, Save-A-Life may be able to take the animal into our shelter. Our shelter is quite full, and we get dozens of requests every week, but consider all requests that come in. To arrange to bring us an animal, please fill out the form below. Do not call or email us. All submissions are reviewed based on the information in this form.
We will then contact you to let you know if the animal is one we can accept. If so, we will then make arrangements to get the animal from you. Most of the time we ask that you bring the animal to one of our adoption locations during our adoption hours.
