Here's our story in a nutshell . . .
PLEASE HELP SAVE OUR CATS
Save-a-Life is a non-profit animal rescue dedicated to saving and adopting
homeless cats. In 2015 Ruben Lopez, stepped in to save the rescue, and
suddenly Animal Control began showing up, demanding that Ruben clean and
refurbish the entire ranch.
Tammy, the caretaker who had let the ranch became filthy. was resentful of
Ruben's authority and made a complaint to Officer Burgess that the cats
that she was supposed to be taking care of, weren't being taken care of,
which led to the seizure of 24 of our cats on June 13, 2016.
No charges were filed or citations given, but there is still no way to get
the cats back. Save-a-LIfe challenged the seizure at a hearing (Animal Control's
investigation of themselves) on June 27th, but the hearing was far from justice.
Two weeks later Animal Control came again and demanded the cats from the
medical room be taken to the vet THAT DAY, which was done, but the doctor
didn't write his report for two or three days. We left a message for Burgess,
but rather than check out the facts, he got a search warrant on unfounded claims.
On August 2nd, Animal Control came out to the rescue again with a swat team
of trucks and nets and guns and seized 46 more of our cats from various kennels,
along with all of Save-a-LIfe's paperwork. They also arrested Ruben, who he
was later released, and there were no charges filed. The 46 cats were not
sick, and are still being held hostage today. Kern County Animal Control now
wants $14,000 or the cats will be euthanized.
We are reaching out to the media and other animal rights organizations to
expose the bullying and unethical tactics of Animal Control.
